Harvest Share Community Food Programs (HSCFP) is a community-based nonprofit organization with a mission to provide improved access to healthy, nutritious, affordable food for individuals and families in need in the District of Parry Sound.

Duties of the Board of Directors
All members of the board of directors are responsible to:
  1. Actively support the Mission, Vision and Values of HSCFP.
  2. Attend and participate in meetings of the board of directors.
  3. Keep confidential all information unless the Board of Directors determines that such information is public. This shall include, but not be limited to, information about staff/personnel, any personal information, and matters dealt with during closed sessions of the Board of Directors.
  4. Exercise the powers of office and fulfill their responsibilities honestly, in good faith, and in the best interests of HSCFP.
  5. Exercise these responsibilities, at all times, with due diligence, care, and skill in a reasonable and prudent manner.
  6. Respect and support HSCFP’s By-laws, policies, and decisions of the Board of Directors and membership.
  7. Conduct themselves in a spirit of collegiality and respect for the collective decisions of the Board of Directors and subordinate their personal interests to the best interests of HSCFP.

In addition to the above, we are looking for individuals who can:
  • Actively seek to understand the diversity of our communities and their needs.
  • Be able to think in terms of systems and context — to see the big picture.
  • Be willing to delegate the operational detail to others.
  • Be able and willing to deal with vision and the long-term, rather than day-to-day details.

Eligibility Criteria and Conditions of Appointment
  • Directors must be at least 18 years old.
  • Undischarged bankrupts are ineligible to serve as Directors.
  • Directors are serving in a volunteer capacity. No remuneration is provided
  • Directors must fulfill the requirements and responsibilities of their position (i.e., preparing for and attending Board and Committee meetings). The time commitment may vary in any given month; however, the minimum time commitment is approximately 3-5 hours monthly.
  • Directors must uphold their fiduciary obligations to the Corporation.
  • Directors must comply with applicable legislation governing CHSO (Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2009), its by-laws and policies, and all other applicable rules.
