Join us as a volunteer assistant for the Safe Chef program, a fun and educational program designed for children aged 8–14. Safe Chef helps participants build confidence in the kitchen while learning important food safety practices, basic cooking skills, and safe food handling habits.

Program Dates & Time:

Time: 5:30pm-7pm 

  • Session 1: Sept 30, Oct 7, 14, 21 
  • Session 2: Nov 12, 19, 26 & Dec 3
  • Session 3: Feb 4, 11, 18, 25

Role and Responsibilities

Program Support: Assist the program instructor with the setup, delivery, and cleanup of Safe Chef activities.

Participant Engagement: Help create a welcoming, positive, and supportive environment where children feel encouraged to learn and participate.

Kitchen Safety Support: Reinforce safe kitchen practices, including proper handwashing, safe use of utensils and equipment, and awareness of food allergies and cleanliness.

Activity Assistance: Support children as they follow recipes, measure ingredients, prepare simple dishes, and complete hands-on cooking activities.

Supervision: Help monitor participants during the program to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.

Cleanup and Organization: Assist with washing dishes, sanitizing work areas, organizing supplies, and ensuring the program space is left clean.

Qualifications

  • Interest in cooking, food safety, or working with children.
  • Ability to follow direction from the program instructor and support planned activities.
  • Friendly, patient, and encouraging approach with children aged 8–14.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, organized, and willing to assist with setup and cleanup.
  • Previous experience working with children or in a kitchen setting is an asset, but not required.
